I received my dental degree from Iran where resources for students seeking more than just clinical work are incredibly limited. My curriculum vitae details all my achievements and shows my passion for research and I would be grateful for your consideration of these during your assessments.
As a second year dental student I began writing a book entitled ”Textbook of canal preparation, fundamentals, instruments and techniques” with two of my friends. We compiled and edited it using over 452 references in four years. The guide was highly recommended by Iranian Association of Endodontists and it received the title of “book of the year” from ministry of culture in competition with more than 1700 books. This was the initiation of a series of activities that I’ve proudly mentioned them in my curriculum vitae.
Despite my expertise in endodontics, my future aims lies within academic orthodontics. My particular areas of interest are growth prediction, dentofacial simulation and prevention of dentofacial abnormalities, dental informatics, tissue engineering and tissue regeneration. I am thoroughly captivated by the dynamic and flexible nature of academia and though I enjoy practicing evidence based dentistry, I am looking forward to being able to apply myself in this challenging way. I am hoping to use the opportunity of studying at Harvard to gain experience in research and become a faculty member of the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. My ultimate dream is to have many original research articles and achieving this requires hard work, dedication and the support of my seniors. I am hoping that in such an inspiring atmosphere at Harvard, I would thrive academically and contribute to the ongoing fantastic reputation of this great institution.
Though I possess unorthodox qualifications, I am confident that given the opportunity, I would be able to achieve my aims set out above. I hope my personal statement and supporting curriculum vitae help to convince the board of my dedication to an academic career in orthodontics.
